EAWA MINUTES

May 10, 2018



The May 10th meeting of the EAWA was called to order at 7:13 PM by President Chris Stanley N1CJS.   DICK W1KRP made a motion to accept the April minutes as e-mailed. Rob W8HAP seconded the motion. The motion passed.  Evie KA1BRA made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report ( Savings account $806.31, Petty cash $247.31, VE Accnt $18.82, and Repeater Fund $ 92.39) that was seconded by Rob W8HAP.  The motion carried.

OLD BUSINESS

BATTERY UPDATE Dick W1KRP is going to look into getting a box for the battery.

QRP CONTEST Jeff KA1DBE reported on the QRP Contest in which he, Matt W1MRH and Joan W1DLC participated at the Ellsworth Waterfront on April 21st.  They operated for about four hours. Jeff reported the bands were terrible and it was cold. They made 3 QSOs on SSB and 6 QSOs on CW. All QSOs except for 2 were River Runs Through It QSOs.  Jeff reported the club members had the full cooperation of the Harbor Master. Joan will send a thank you note to him. Dick will get her the name and address.


TOUCH A TRUCK  Saturday May 12 at MDI High School from 10:00 - 2:00.


Phil N1EP thanked the club for the Kenwood TS 440 donated by Ron N1AHH to Kidz Radioactive .   Camp Beechcliff will be held July 9 - 12. There will be a couple topics each day such as: a fox hunt, demos on HF, kits, soldering, and public service.  Chris AB1PZ suggested APRS trackers.



NEW BUSINESS


DOWNEAST HAM RADIO TECHNOLOGY and ROBOTICS FAIR  Saturday May 19 at the Meadow View Apartments Community room.  There will be demos/ presentations from 9:00 to noon for ages 12 and up. The last VE test session under the current question pool will be held at 1:00.


4-H DEMO  Burt K7HVN reminded the club of the event at the Blue Hill Fairgrounds on Saturday June 9th.  Phil N1EP, Evie KA1BRA, Jeff KA1DBE and Joan W1DLC have volunteered to assist Burt at the 4H event.


MONTHLY SNACK  It was decided that a volunteer would bring snacks to the monthly club meetings.  Bernie KI4VCR will provide June’s refreshments.


FIELD DAY Evie KA1BRA will provide a list of food items to Chris N1CJS who volunteered to do the food shopping for breakfast and lunch.  There will be a PotLuck dinner Saturday. N1CJS suggested there be a meeting between FD and the June meeting. The club agreed to meet on Sunday May 27th at noon.


EMCOMM SESSION  Chris AB1PZ will try to set up a session in June.


HERMON HAMFEST June 2nd


Bradley KC1HVP made a motion to adjourn that was seconded by Rob W8HAP at 7:48PM.  

PROGRAM  John KQ1P presented a program called “StoryTelling” and told his story of becoming a ham , and the equipment and antennas he has used throughout the years.
